I'm Jessica Steele, a collage artist based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. My work is created entirely by hand using vintage paper ephemera—books, magazines, and other printed matter—which I cut, arrange, and reassemble into new compositions.

Collage is about transformation. I isolate fragments from their original context, recombining those fragments into unexpected relationships, creating layered scenes that feel both familiar and strange. Each artwork evolves through an intuitive, tactile process.

I’m especially drawn to how materials once used to sell specific ideals or narratives, such as advertising or editorial photography, can take on new meaning through recombination.
